Introduction to the Role of the Professional Taxi and Private Hire Driver

This Certificate provides learners with the knowledge and skills to support their professional development as a taxi or private hire driver — helping them to meet and adapt to the challenges they face on a daily basis.

The Certificate in Introduction to the Role of the Professional Taxi and Private Hire Driver at SCQF level 5 develops essential knowledge in:

  • health and safety in the taxi work environment
  • vehicle maintenance and safety inspections
  • routes and fares
  • safely transporting passengers, luggage and parcels
  • providing a professional customer service, and
  • an understanding of relevant licensing regulations that relate to the operation of taxi and private hire operations

This qualification is suitable for individuals who are:

Qualification Structure:

SCQF level: 5 - The Certificate in Introduction to the Role of the Professional Taxi and Private Hire Driver at SCQF level 5 consists of nine mandatory units (19 SCQF credit points).

Functional English, Age 18+ (No prior qualifications are required to undertake this qualification.)

What is the course duration?

The course duration depends on the learning style of the individual learner. Usually, the whole process takes approximately 8 weeks from enrolment to certification. Please note, the printed copies of the certificates can take up to 4 weeks to arrive after completion of the course.

Do I have to attend classes?

In short, yes. Every learner will need to attend guided learning sessions and mock exams in order to prepare themselves for the online final exams. Learning sessions can be tailored to a learner's individual needs and full support will be provided to each learner for them to complete the course to the best of their ability.

Will I receive my study material in digital format or in print?

We strive towards paperless processes where possible. You will receive your study material as a digital copy in PDF format. If you wish, you can request 1 set of print copies at no extra charge. Please note that print copies of study materials must be collected from your respective campus (Newham or Woking).

Do you provide adequate support for slow learners?

We provide full support to all our leaners, based on their learning style. You are entitled to as many guided learning sessions as you feel you require, and unlimited attempts at the mock exams. At Frontera, we make sure that no one gets left behind.

Where is this certificate accepted?

This certificate is accepted by all Taxi/PHV Licensing Authorities in England and Wales who require a Level 2 certificate for the issuance or renewal of a Taxi/PHV licence.

Is this certificate accepted by Uber as a proof of knowledge of English language?

Please check the Uber website and their specific guidelines regarding this matter. A Level 2 certificate is generally accepted as a proof of knowledge of English nationwide.

What happens if I fail an exam? Do I have to re-take all the exams?

No. If you are unsuccessful in a particular module, you will only have to re-take that particular module. Please note that all exams must be booked 14 days in advance.

Is there a fee for re-sitting a failed module?

Yes, there is a nominal re-sit fee of £15.00 for a failed module. Please see our re-sit policy in the course documentation for further details or call us on 07532 734502 for more information.

How many times can I re-attempt a failed module?

You can have unlimited attempts at any failed module.
